Grant Shapps MP has organised a Military Covenant conference of business at the Biopark in Broadwater Road, WGC to highlight the many benefits of employing people with military experience. Representatives of more than 30 local businesses took part, including Barclays bank, who also sponsored the event. Grant hopes to sign sympathetic businesses up to the Welwyn Hatfield Military Covenant and organise a jobs fair before the end of the year.

Barclays AFTER programme has given former service personnel 129 work experience placements and 54 full time positions. Barclays funds training courses to provide former soldiers, sailors and RAF personnel with employment skills.  They showcased their programme to show other businesses, no matter how small, that they too, can tap into talent.

Grant said “I have experienced directly the benefits of having somebody of military background working for me. That is something I want to share with the businesses of Welwyn Hatfield.”
